The children had a great time taking part in training sessions run by a coach from Somerset County Cricket Club this week. Following this, our KS2 children will be attending SCCC Schools Day on Wednesday 1st May, when they will be watching the Western Storm in action. For any children who are interested in finding out a bit more about Western Storm, their website can be found here. I have also linked to a page about their squad here - a squad which includes a number of England internationals, including the England captain, Heather Knight.
Please note, as previously explained, we do not have capacity in the office to contact individual parents to obtain permission for children to go on the cricket trip. Permission can be given in the usual way, through Scopay. If we do not receive permission for your child to go, then they will remain in school on Wednesday.
This week we also need to celebrate the achievements of one of our members of staff, who completed the London Marathon last Saturday. Well done to Mrs Brewster in the office, we are all in awe of your achievement!
We have signed up to take part in 'Wells in Bloom' again this year and are really hoping to retain the shield that we won in 2023. If you are a keen gardener and are able to spend some time in school helping the children, please speak to their class teacher and I am sure that they will be delighted with the support.
As you may know, Somerset County Council have made some drastic cuts to funding in order to get their budget signed off for the next 12 months. One of the areas being cut is the funding for school crossing patrols. Thankfully, Wookey Parish Council have stepped in and provided us with the funding that is being withdrawn by SCC. On behalf of all members of the school community, I want to thank them for their generosity.
Finally, for this week, a big thank you to Mr Thompson, one of our parents, for installing our new postbox. We really appreciate it.
