Friday 3rd May 2024

Last week I shared the news that Mrs Brewster, one of our staff team, completed this year's London Marathon. Today I am delighted to inform you that she raised £400 for our school through her amazing effort! Thank you so much to Laura for doing this.

I am also delighted to inform you that we are going to be taking part in the 'Eels in the Classroom' Project, which is organised by SERP (Somerset Eel Recovery Project). In a couple of weeks we will have a tank set up in school, then roughly two weeks later, we will be receiving around 50 elvers which the children in Rowan Class will be feeding and looking after, before they are released into the wild (the elvers not the children??). This is a lovely thing to be part of, and we are looking forward to sharing our 'eel journey' with you! For more information on the project please click here.

Finally, from me this week, at our governors' meeting on Monday this we agreed our INSET days for the 2024/25 academic year. Details can be found on our school website.

A Message About School Lunches

Thank you to all parents in KS2 for your assistance in getting the permissions for our trip to Taunton this week turned around in such a short time.

As I mentioned in my communications around the trip, due to time constraints, the office staff didn't have the capacity to contact parents individually to remind them about giving permission for their children to attend.

In light of how successful this was, I want to see if we can cut down on the number of phone calls we are required to make to individual parents regarding ordering lunches. At present, this takes the office staff a great deal of time, and takes them away from other tasks they need to complete.

We have always asked parents to book meals via Scopay by 12 noon on a Wednesday for dinners required the following week. We have up to this point contacted individual parents who have missed the deadline, but from next week I would like to see if we can show the same levels of engagement we did for this week's trip. So, please be aware that, if no meals are booked for your child by lunchtime on a Wednesday, then we will be expecting children to be sent in with packed lunches for the following week.

Meals can now be booked up until the end of the summer term.  All booked lunches will need to be paid for in advance if your child is not in receipt of Free School Meals or Universal Free School Meals.

Thank you in advance for your support in this.

We have been asked by the organisers of Henton Flower Festival to help with their plans to make it an extra memorable event this year. They have asked us if our children would like to produce pictures of flowers to decorate the church gates and flower posies to decorate the ends of pews. The theme is village life, and it would be lovely if we could contribute to a joyful collection of flowers which celebrates the different activities that take place in our communities. If any children would like to draw a picture of their favourite flower please give them to Barnaby in Chestnut Class. Many thanks

We have signed up to take part in 'Wells in Bloom' again this year and are really hoping to retain the shield that we won in 2023. If you are a keen gardener and are able to spend some time in school helping the children, please speak to their class teacher and I am sure that they will be delighted with the support.

Farm Club

Farm club is running again on Mondays after school this term. Sarah and Ellie from Wookey Farm will walk pupils back to the farm, and pick up from Wookey Farm is at 4:45pm. A message regarding pupil absences

This is a polite reminder that, if your child is unwell and will not be attending school, please contact the school office to confirm this. A message sent to a class teacher via Seesaw will not be seen straight away, as the teachers will be busy preparing for the school day.

If you wish to apply for term time leave for your child, please complete a term time leave request form, a copy of which can be found here.
