Tuesday 2nd July 2024

Just to keep everyone on their toes, I am putting out a Tuesday newsletter this week. I think that is a first for me!

After a short week last week, with two INSET days, I was intending to wait until Friday this week before producing a newsletter, but it is such a busy time of year I thought it was better to send one out today.

Reminder - Sports Day

All parents are warmly invited to our sports afternoon on Thursday this week. Gates will open at 1:15pm for a 1:30pm start.

This year we are asking that all children wear a t-shirt of their 'house' colour. If you do not have a t-shirt of the correct colour, please let your child's class teacher know and they will help source one.

The WSA are offering refreshments during the afternoon. We thank them for their continued support.

School Attendance

As we are in the eye of the storm in terms of parents asking us to authorise term time absences, I thought it would be a good idea if we started publishing weekly attendance data for each class. I have not used the data for last week, as it was only three days, so here are the results for the week of 17th - 21st of June:

  • Rowan Class 96.8%
  • Oak Class 95.6%
  • Willow Class 92.6%
  • Chestnut Class 100%

As a school last week, we had an attendance of 95.6%, which is slightly above the national average (around 94%). Well done to Chestnut in particular, as they had a perfect attendance record! Our high score was not all down to Chestnut Class though, as a total of 78 children had 100% attendance for that week. As I am sure you are aware, high levels of attendance support the best possible progress in school, so these figures make good reading.

Wells in Bloom 2024

After judging last week, the judges left us with four pairs of tickets for the Schools Award Ceremony, which is taking place on Thursday this week. If any parents would like to attend with their children on behalf of the school, please pop in to the office and claim 2 free tickets, which will also entitle you to visit The Bishop's Palace on that day. These will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis.

Move Up Day

Tomorrow is a very important day for all our children, not just Year 6. Year 6 will have the first taste of the next phase of their school lives when they spend the day at Secondary School, whilst the rest of our children will be spending the day with their teacher(s) for September.

For parents of children in Year 6, just a reminder that there will be a uniform sale in the Atom Cafe in Kennion building tomorrow, from 3:30 to 7:30pm.

A Reminder About School Lunches

Please be aware that, if no meals are booked for your child by lunchtime on a Wednesday, then we will be expecting them to be sent in with packed lunches for the following week.

Meals can now be booked up until the end of the summer term.  All booked lunches will need to be paid for in advance if your child is not in receipt of Free School Meals or Universal Free School Meals.

A message regarding pupil absences

This is a polite reminder that, if your child is unwell and will not be attending school, please contact the school office to confirm this. A message sent to a class teacher via Seesaw will not be seen straight away, as the teachers will be busy preparing for the school day.

If you wish to apply for term time leave for your child, please complete a term time leave request form, a copy of which can be found here.
