The children have been amazing today in what has been, for some, their first day in school for nearly 6 months.
I think it is safe to say that we were all feeling a bit anxious this morning about how the day would go, but the smiles on the children's faces put us all at ease really quickly. It was great to see friendships being renewed, summer holiday stories being shared and children coming into school ready to learn. It was clear on my classroom walks throughout the day that the children all felt relaxed and glad to be back at school.
I need to say a huge thank you to the staff for their work leading up to and throughout today. I am extremely humbled by their dedication, focus and calmness. I need also to thank our parents for their support of the school during tricky times and their patience when things have been more complicated than usual. We are very lucky to have such a supportive group of parents at Wookey.
Whilst we do have a number of necessary COVID-related measures in place, which will continue for the foreseeable future in some form, I can honestly say that they did not phase the children in the slightest today, and it really felt like 'business as usual' for everyone, staff and children alike.
I am glad to say that 'the Wookey way' is alive and well!
